The Bilstein's and OE springs are very comfortable in the Atlanta area. I'm a transplant from the Northeast and think this combination would be unacceptable in, say, the NY metro area with its colder winter temperatures and poorly maintained roads.
Installation ocurred first with the rears and then, approximately 1k miles later, the fronts. The rears had a significant impact on reducing understeer, despite the fact the stein's rear tube diameter is similar in size to the OE Boge's. Installation of the struts, with a tube size significantly greater the the OE's, reintroduced some understeer, but ELIMINATED the squat and dive experienced on hard acceleration and braking.
The initial harshness was on the edge of my tolerance, and I did question if it was a mistake installing the 'steins. They gradually became significantly more comfortable after two summers, approximately 15k miles, while retaining all the handling characteristics for which they are renowned. Straightaways are now very controlled and in my seat, not overly harsh. I drive the vehicle fairly hard and have never heard a complaint regarding the ride quality; rattles are a rare event.
FWIW, I chose the 'steins because they supply a complete strut assembly, compared with Koni's insert approach.
