Wheel related problems - please do help (long)

There are two problems I'm trying to tackle here on my 1988 Saab 9000 Turbo:
1. There is an audible clicking (almost a creaking sound) from the left wheel when accelerating (even mildly) in a turn. There is no such sound when in a straight line - accelerating or braking. The sound happens when I turn left or right and only comes from the left wheel. My initial guess is CV joints. The previous owner replaced the outer boot on the left driveshaft. This sound has been getting worse with time. I've jacked the car and checked for obvious looseness in suspension. All that is tight. Also, the frequency of the sound is more than once per rev. of the wheel - if that makes a difference.
Am I right in suspecting the shaft and associated joints? What other tests should I do to pinpoint the problem? Now, Pep Boys can get me a rebuilt left driveshaft for $80 + $5 core charge. Are the joints rebuildable? If yes, is it advisable to pull it apart and regrease the joints instead of buying a new shaft?
2. ABS Sensors. My ABS light comes on sporadically when driving. I havent been able to pinpoint exact conditions in which it happens since it happens a lot and at various times. But the worst part is this. The ABS system actually thinks wheels are slipping and comes on many times when it is not supposed to. It has come on quite often under very very light braking.. like coasting to a stop. This is definitely not good - probably worse than the system not working at all since it increases braking distances by a lot without warning.
I was going to take the wheels off and clean the sensors maybe. How do I clean the toothed wheels? Take the brake rotors off? Also, when I jacked the front left up to check for susp. looseness, I looked at the ABS sensor and noticed that there isnt any screw actually holding it place!! Theres a deep hole from the top thats round. Am I missing the mounting bolt?
Thanks,
Karthik
