Unplugging the battery for a half hour or so will cause the ECU to forget previous settings and reset to defaults; adaption will then take care of adjusting boost from there.

Unplugging the BPC will cause the ECU to see a low boost condition and attempt to increase it by adjusting BPC; since the BPC is unhooked, the low boost condition will continue, and the ECU will quickly get to a state of maxed out boost. When you reattach the BPC, then you will see overboost for awhile until the ECU gets things under control.
