'94 Aero CD player acting up

Just bought my '94 Aero yesterday. The dealer had to jump the car(which caused the stereo code thing to happen, the SRS light to blink, etc.) I successfully entered the code and got the radio to work, but now the single CD player in the front is acting up.
I put the CD in, it accepts it, the word "disc" comes up on the display, I can hear it spinning, but then after 2 or 3 seconds, the radio comes back on and the CD is spit out.
The magazine cartridge is missing in the back. I can hear it sort of shuffling around in the back, looking for CDs, so I think it still works, I just need to get a replacement cartridge for it. Would the missing cartridge have any effect on the single disc player up front? Would that cause it not to work?
I've hit the reset button several times and it makes no difference. It always spits the CD back out. It's just frustrating because it looks like everything is functioning correctly, it's not like it's not reading or accepting the CD, it just won't play it. Any ideas?
