Hello there...
I agree with ryan r on running the wire through where the clutch would be IF you have an automatic... however, if you have a 5-speed, like me, you don't have that option.
in my 1990 9000 turbo, i managed to run ZERO gauge wire through a hole that i made myself. If you get underneath the dash on the drivers side with falshlight, you should see a metal line, about 1/4" in diameter, that runs out of the pedal cluster slightly towards the left, and enters the firewall through a rubber gasket.
This gasket can be removed, and the hole it's plugging is almost 1" in diameter, large enough to feed 4 gauge wire through without any modifications...
When you pull the plug out, be careful not to bend or disrupt the metal line too much. It helps to get at it from the other side to PUSH it into the car, which is the only way it can move. you can do this by opening your hood, and moving a small fuse-box with a clear top, right next to the power steering resevior. In my car, i just pulled the fusebox stright up, while still attached to wires, and set it on the engine...
,,,you can now reach your hand in towards the place of the rubber stopper, it's like a 45 degree angle in from that point...
...this is VERY difficult, and i got bruised and cut as i have a large arm, and theres not much space to work with in this area.
but, i had no other options, this was the only way to go. Even after the stopper was removed, i had to cut away the hole even larger to fit my wire, which is the size of a quater in diameter, through.
after you get it through the wirewall, i assume you need to get it into your trunk...
take out both of the plastic door sills on the drivers side, and there is more than enough room to run a 4 gauge wire underneath them with the cars own wire harness... all of the way back into the trunk.
when you're done, it looks flawless.. no sign of wire anywhere
if you have more questions, ask away... i'm on my 3rd stereo system in my saab. I have a degree in studio recording (television, radio, broadcast) and also in show production and touring (live sound)
