A car's brakes work by turning all that forward moving energy into heat. The rotors get airflow, but a major path for removing heat from the rotor is to conduct it out to the metal of the wheel. So if you've been driving around and stopping, the wheels will get warm. Just driving around, if you were to touch the brake rotor after stopping, you'd get a nasty burn. So nothing out of the ordinary there.
Now, if you smell burning brake material, that could be the sign of either dragging brake calipers or Waaaaay too aggressive driving. But just some steam when hit with water after stopping, no big deal.
The poor alignment will generate a little more heat, but miniscule in comparison to the energy in taking a 3200 pound car from 50 mph to zero in 130 feet. I don't think you've got an overheating issue, but definately an alignment issue. That's eating tires and wasting gas.
The PS fluid can be drained and flushed. As to the fluid, check your owner's manual. (Sorry for the cop-out on that) Does the groan happen when the car isn't moving, or does it happen when moving? A little groan when stopped isn't unusual - there a lot of force involved. If you hear groaning a lot, it could be the PS pump. It could also be a tired serpentine belt. How old is it?
