Flushing usually involves removing the return hose to the tank and pouring fluid in while the engine is running. The return hose goes to a container.
The only downside is that the nipples on the tank like to break off. And then things get fun. I'd find a place you trust to do it.
What counts is the fluid in the tank. The stuff that makes it outside picks up all sorts of dirt thrown up by just driving around. Not pretty, but not necessarily a sign of contaminated fluid.
