I just changed my fuel pump today on my 1995 Aero with 178K. I did not break either of the valves and would recommend soaking them down with liquid wrench for a couple hours before trying to remove them. The ring was another issue... but I finally got it out.
As for my car and TCS, I have had a battle since 75,000 miles. I have replaced just about everything except the throttle body and that is coming next week. I also can state that codes do need to be pulled and cleared as it will store all kinds of faults. I have had TCS failure for any number of reasons including replacing parts not related to TCS, having electrical parts added and even from having the car jumped. The only parts that have really gone were the pedal pot, one safety valve and now the TB itself. Most of the grief has been with "clutter" and "ghosts" in the throttle control unit. Hopefully I will get some more miles without TSC headaches.
