It might have burned an exhaust valve.
A leak down test would reveal if the air is going out through exhaust or intake or into the crank case.
That would let you know if an exhaust-intake valve or piston/rings are bad.
Exhaust valves can sometimes burn if the engine is running too lean, especially when pulling a load.
A marginal spraying fuel injector can be enough to kill the valve.
