Love 9000 but kinda scared by the opinions here

I really love the body style and the way they drive for 1993-98 Saab 9k's. I've been looking postings on craig's list for several months now, and actually went out and test drove several of them. But after reading this BB for several weeks and searching old posts, I have no idea if a used 9000 would be a good car for me. Currently, I have a 1994 Volvo 940 NA with 110k for wife, and a 1990 Acura Legend Coupe with 160k for me. I drive the Acura 80 miles a day to and back from work, and wife drives the Volvo several miles a day to work. Both cars, except for routine maintainence, behaves better than many new cars as far as reliability is concerned. Since my wife is kinda worried how safe a 15 years old Japanese car driven 80 miles on highway a day, we decided to sell the Acura and replace it with a newer car. I've alway liked newer style 9000 and think it'd be a good chance to get one. But based on information from this board, I am given the impression that it'd be a luxury to have the reliability on the 9000 we enjoyed from the Acura and the Volvo. I myself is not a noob when it comes to working on cars. Aside from daily maintenance, I could do most work that do not require special equipment myself (struts, timing belt, water pumps, radiator, etc., but probably not heater core or exhaust). But I live in an apartment and have to work on parking lot. Considering the long and bitter winter in New England, and I need the car for work, I would rather to have a car that only needs work a couple times a year. Would it be a wise move to get a 9000? I may opt to a non-turbo for better reliability.
Any input is appreciated.
