Questions about a 1998 9000 CSE

I'm looking at a pretty clean 1998 9000 CSE that's on a local Ford dealer lot. It's an automatic with 129,000 miles. Asking price is about $5500.00. Does this seem like an OK price? Would it be a prudent idea to have the local Saab dealer give it the once over? They offer a 24 point inspection for a hundred or so bucks.
A couple of other specifics if you please.
Is it normal for the gas pedal to be hard to push down? The car drives well and is real peppy but I've never driven a car with this particular problem. It's real stiff.
At idle (thats when I can hear it), there is a noticable "ticking". It doesn't sound like it's coming from the motor itself, but somewhere on the passsenger side under the hood. It doesn't seem like motor ticking to me because the frequency of the ticking doesn't change as I bring up the RPMs as I would suspect a motor ticking would do. Any ideas?
I'd appreciate all and any opinions from the sage and astute wisdom of this forum.
Thanks,
Rob
