Here’s my story on this issue: I was in the market for an SPG and had searched the saabnet classifieds and eBay religiously for weeks if not years. I came across this Aero on saabnet classifieds and my attention turned from the SPG to this AERO. I emailed the owner and they said everything was great. A perfect car but just had to sell. I asked for pictures and they looked unbelievable and I was quickly emailing and calling about this car. I had to have it!
The only problem that remained was the fact the car was in Cleveland and I was in Bowling Green Kentucky. I talked it over with my wife and she said go for it. I flew up to Cleveland and picked the car up. It looked great but I think there was something in my coke on the plane because when I got to the interstate there was a slight vibration in the steering and didn’t give much thought about it. I was happy knowing that the car had some issues but that they were minor in nature and in this case was more than likely (tires needed balanced).
The day after; I arrived home late and of course it was dark and I was tired. The next day reality had begun to set in and needless to say I was beginning a long and expensive road to recovery. In short the wheels were bent which needed to be replaced. Below is a list of items that had or will need to be replaced in order to make this the car I thought I had purchased.
Wheel & Tires (wheel bent and tires less than 50%)
Transmission (when out less than 3 months and 2000miles)
Motor mounts (3 shot)
Rotors and pads (over-heated and shot)
Water pump never been replaced
Tie rods, ball joints, and CV boots all needed replaced and had never been replaced
CPS – when out only after 500 miles or so
Starter when out about 1500 miles after purchase
Many other smaller items that ate a hole in my wallet as well
Needless to say 2800.00 dollars later and I still don’t have my transmission in the car. I would advise to find a car locally or within a 3 to 4 hour drive. This way you can check it out yourself or take it to a mechanic in the area and not solely rely on the word of someone with the only intention of selling the car.
Good luck!
