I've searched the archives for the answer to this antenna question to no avail, so I hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

The antenna mast on my '98 CSE hasn't been retracting fully, so while I was at my indy getting some other work done today, I asked if he had a replacement mast in stock. He said yes, but with luck my mast might be repaired with lubrication. He pulled the mast out and found it to be in good shape and cable not broken. After cleaning and applying lube he put it back in and it still would not retract fully. He then tried a brand new antenna, but that one wouldn't retract fully either. Goes up full, but when retracted still sticks up 6 or 8 inches.

Next he removed motor and opened up retraction mechanism case. Everything in there looked good too. No pieces of broken antenna mast cable in there and all the teeth were in good shape, no broken bits. Put it all back together again, tried the new mast again but it still wouldn't retract fully.

The motor sounds just like it always did; runs mast up with a few clicks after reaching top, then the same thing when retracting.

My indy is baffled, and suggested I just install a fixed antenna or spring for a new motor.

Does anyone have any ideas we haven't tried yet?
