And that is definitely a good idea and the direction I will go with this. Using an piece below and above with the sandwich theory will highly strengthen the area and allow the shock to not put so much force on the welds of the top piece. I will also use a larger piece of metal to cover the entire hole. Thanks so much for your advice!
