I thought long and hard about a MBC after the 3rd BPC died. But as hugely annoying as it is to replace this device annually, I really do appreciate the protection it gives the engine. And I can't afford to replace the motor!
Last time around, I bought the BPC from my indy ($295) instead of eEuro. Came in a GM Europe parts box. Six months later it's still OK --although I don't entirely trust it. On the way to Swedish Car Day I blew right through the red to cut off. Did it 4 times. Next day it did it once more, now it's acting normal again. Go figure. I think I'm going to put cleaning it with electronic parts cleaner on my maintenance schedule
IMHO, if you are doing a lot of mods to your engine--intake, exhaust, remapped ECU, etc, etc, a MBC *and* a proper boost gauge are a good approach, but for most of us I think it's better to keep the stock control in place, and chalk the too-frequent R&R up to the cost of owning a 9K.
