Steve: Re. the duct tape residue, I agree w/ other posters that WD-40, lacquer thinner, etc. will probably remove your gunk, but (as others said)some of that stuff is dangerous to use on painted surfaces and may even melt some plastics. A very cheap solvent I've used for years to remove that stuff is isopropyl alcohol (aka rubbing alcohol). This solvent is very inert, meaning that it won't remove paint, discolor or melt plastics. I even use it to remove pine pitch from my Saab's exterior body. For that particular application I usually follow-up "rubbed-out" areas with a little polishing compound, then car wax.
