You need a three-wire sensor for a 1995 car Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Fri, 7 Dec 2007 09:50:44 In Reply to: O2 Sensor, Rod [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 7 Dec 2007 07:47:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The 1998 cars use four-wire sensors, which may not work in a 1995 car without wiring modifications (need to do something with the ground wire). The part number for the Bosch generic three-wire sensor for 1994 and 1995 cars is 15735; the Bosch sensor that I used on my Audi, with Ford connector (and plan to install in my SAAB) is 13942.
Rod: the type of wire that is used in oxygen sensors does not take well to twisting and soldering; I think that it may be made of stainless steel or some other non-oxidizing metal, protected from high heat and a corrosive environment. The general wisdom is to splice these connections in a staggered pattern to avoid shorts (see link in my other post on this topic). Above all, use heat-shrink tubing or insulated crimp terminals, electrical tape will not stand up to the heat.
