The seal should still be quite pliable. Testing the valve is very easy: take off one end of the hose going to it, carefully blow and suck (yuck!) on the loose hose end - ensure that air can only go towards the intake manifold. The original valves do break down over time, SAAB has a newer replacement that is supposedly more durable. Some people have used similar one-way valves that they have picked up at the auto parts store, body is made of metal.
