First be extremely careful with the 90 degree fittings on the top of the pump. My best technique to remove them, and not break them, is to use a pair of large vise gripes (yes!) and set the jaws such that they only just squeeze on the fitting HOWEVER use the vise gripes from above and pointed towards the top of the pump, have them grip the fitting between the 90 in the fitting and the pump itself, make the force below the 90 and you won't break it. The pull up gently as you twist back and for about 10 degrees each way, thing of a screw driver.
As to the lock ring, I have a pair of motocyle tire irons, about 20 dollars or less, and then do more that you can imagine! for the locking ring put them in a X such that pulling one and pushing the other they lever against each other, and point the hook end towards the little fence in the locking ring, the secret is that it is putting the force not on the fence but in the joing of the fence and the ring itself, much stronger there, put some force on it move around a couple of times, and it will loosen.. then the tire irons work great for pushing the caliper full open too!
I have to post some pictures...
