A couple of years ago when we had to change a pump on one of our 9000s, my dad got the idea to take a pvc reducer (the inside diameter of the slotted end is 5") and cut slots in it to match up with the locking ring. He drilled 3/4" holes through the top and put a piece of conduit through it to spin with.
It was a bit of work to make it, but after using it to replace 4 fuel pumps, it sure was worth the time.
Here is a picture of it.
