I know you've got a couple of 9ks, and sooner or later... Having a spare VR along on a big trip is a real comfort. Doesn't take up much room. Needed one in Nebraska once, might have saved me a few days of limping along on battery charges.
On the other hand, I changed out my VR on my '95CSE at 165k, and it was not an easy job. Ended up dropping the alt out of the car, not easy, though some claim can be done in the car. So you may want to do a preemptive or preventative change when you have the time.
