It is supposed to go upward and when it does it aligns the rest of the system correctly. If not, it puts a load on the rest of the system.
Quick story.
My flex pipe was shot and I got one from eEuro. Needed car for a trip so had the local garage (not my usual indy) put it on. Never thought about it. I did the rest of the exhaust about 3 months later and it was tough to align. Just figured that was the ay it was. About a year out it was hanging low and the cat bracket was broken. My indy told me the flex pipe was upside down. Showed me how it should go, which I remembered when my daughter's '95 needed an exhaust a couple months later.
IMHO, the 9K exhaust needs another support between the cat and the intermediate muffler. There are hangers on the unibody, not on the exhaust pipes.
