limp home mode?

i doubt that disconnecting the clock unit will cause limp home mode, however just about everything causes limp home mode... it wouldn't surprise me :)
anyway, you don't have to drive the car, or even necessarily start the car with the clock unit unhooked... just wait until it's dark outside, so you can see the lights behind the lcd screen...
and pry the clock unit out, and unhook it.
pay attention to the lcd screen, if its behavior changes.
if you had a known working unit to put it that would be most helpful.
you can also try shining a light into the photocell before removing it.
but yea, i wouldn't worry about it causing limp home mode.
