The red DICs were for T5 engines (Trionic Engine Management 5) found in late C900s, 9000s and the 1999 OG 9-3. The black DICs were for T7 engines found on 1999 and later OG 9-3 Viggens and 9-5s. You CANNOT use a red T5 DIC on a T7 car. A black T7 DIC will work on a T5 car, but according to SAAB is not recommended. Both are key components in SAAB's proprietary engine management system which reads ionization of each individual spark plug to determine what is going on in each individual cylinder and allows the system to adjust spark timing for each cylinder as needed.
