The connector has a moving plastic lock. Hold the connector so you are looking at the pins, and the plastic lock is on the LEFT.

Pin 6 is the lower leftmost pin. Pin 10 is the lower rightmost pin

Holding it this way, the numbering is

6 7 8 9 10

I haven't followed the thread. Silly question - if you turn the key to ON, but not to the START position, do you get dashboard lights? ABS, Oil Pressure, CHeck Engine, EDU lights up, etc?
