Hello all,
I've searched through many previous listings on radio code problems and haven't found the exact same problem as mine. This is for a 1993 9000 with the factory Clarion combination tape/CD/equalizer unit in the console.
Here goes:
1) VERY occasionally the radio will accept the code and work properly, until it's turned off. Then it wants the code again.
2) MOST of the time it won't accept the code. I either continue to get "code" spelled out with the beeping, or I get a blank screen.
3) Sometimes, holding down the "band" button will restore the "code" letters; sometimes it won't.
4) I have pulled both the radio and the equalizer and cleaned up electrical contacts, also shoved them in and out several times to clean up the contacts in the car. Checked both 5 and 10 amp fuses in the console and they're fine. Also checked two radio fuses (that I know of) in the main fuse box and they're fine.
5) Weirdest of all: If I just insert the radio and turn it on (to get the standard code/beeping response), and then insert the equalizer, I get quite a loud series of buzzes that appears to come from near the back of the engine compartment (perhaps as if it was inside the aquarium). It sounds almost like a relay that's tripping, but louder. After about 10 seconds, it stops. The equalizer, however, works fine (or at least it did the last time I actually got the radio to take the code).
So to sum up:
Occasionally: radio will accept code, but loses it after being turned off.
Usually: can enter code but radio won't accept it.
Always: inserting the equalizer after the radio is turned on creates a strange buzz.
All help appreciated.
