All manufacturers have to cater to the buying public. We, the American buying public, is very different from our European cousins. Take any brand, be it our beloved Saab or BMW, check the % of cars with manual transmission in the States vs. in Europe, the pattern becomes clear. We have most of the automatics. What does that tell us? we are lazy, we don't appreciate the fine points of driving experience, we are much less sophisticated than our cousins across the ocean. The message is loud and clear to the manufacturers, just give the Americans the brutes, charge them a fortune, laugh all the way to the bank. Why should they care. We have ourselves to blame.
