I have a 94 Aero that has been running hot for a couple of years. It has a new radiator, new water pump, new Saab thermostat, new hoses, new fan switch on the radiator. I've had the car since 95 and early in it's life it did not seem like it ran hot. More recently it seems like any time the outside temperature is above 50F the radiator fan was constantly being called upon to run. The fan comes on at about 11 oclock on the guage. I replaced the items above as they failed. But I thought that if the radiator wasn't cooling the coolant, maybe it was time to replace the radiator. That made little difference. I think that it must be the a/c condenser that is limiting the airflow across the radiator that is causing the higher coolant temperature. I've put a switch in the cabin to allow me to run the radiator fan. In the winter I let the radiator switch control it. From spring through fall I usually turn on the fan from the cabin and let it run continuously. The only problem is when I forget to turn it off when parking the car.
In 1995 they changed the temp gauge from moving based on actual temperature to being controlled by the computer. I imagine my 1995, 1996, and 1998 9000's run just as hot as the 1994, but the guage says the coolant is at a normal temperature. Ignorance is bliss.
