I paid $300 to have my head cleaned, pressure tested, skimmed and "squished" (it was severely warped). I also had a valve job which included installing new valve seals and lapping-in the old valves (valve guides were ok). Against the advice of this board, which said I'd be better off with a "good" used head, I tried to "fix" my old head. I now have a used cylinder head installed with success and my warped head is a shiny paperweight with binding cam bearing journals. I will rectify this in the future, but right now I've got other things to worry about.
A saabnet member recomennded Clearwater cylinder head. Google it. They have 2.3 heads with a warranty.
I would get a guarantee (in writing) that your head, if warped badly, can be repaired before you agree to any work by a machine shop.
