If you put miles on your car in a relatively consistent fashion, it's easy to test. First, set a baseline by running three tanks of your "usual" gas. Then switch it off, three tanks at least of each different grade, and calculate your MPG.
Note that brands can also make a significant difference! A while back, when I was putting 800+ miles per month on a C900, I found out that the better mileage I got on top brands like Shell or Sunoco far outweighed the higher price I paid.
Every engine runs just a little different, every driver drives a little different, every gasoline producer makes gas a little different, so what works for one person in one area of the country or world won't necessarily work for another person in another area, or even season.
General statements like use or don't use premium are helpful to a point, but the best thing you can do is work it out for yourself, with your car, your driving style, and the gas available in your area.
