tz, i've too busy to look at the board lately, and just noticed your post.
in both cars it is somewhat of a challenge to measure tensioner runout, though in different ways. the 9000 is simpler, as nothing has to be removed. however, you have to work by feel under the intake manifold in the vicinity of number 1 cylinder, but it can be done. in the 900, the a/c compressor has to be moved aside (four fasteners, torx and nut for each each). the tensioner is then accessible through a hole in the a/c compressor bracket.
in either car, engine must not move until tensioner is replaced.
in either car, tensioner capscrew has to be removed (about 11/12mm i think. spring and plasic insert can remain in main tensioner body, i'm sure, though i've always removed them with great care at this time.
deep socket comes next. don't recall the size, but around 25mm i think. unscrew the tensioner body, and measure the extension. that's where the published 11mm comes in. where exactly to measure? pics are available, but it's too late tonight to look for them.
if you can't find pic, search, email or post.
to replace, ratcheted extension must be retracted, spring and plastic end inserted, and main body screwed back in. then, capscrew goes on - careful - it's against spring pressure, and hard to find if you lose it. (i insert a probe of some sort and extend ratcheting member by hand, thus decreasing the spring pressure to work against for screwcap screw-in).
i don't recall the torques, but they're published. if you've done enough of this stuff, your feel is ok.
