To try answering your questions -
(1) I can't see why a vacuum leak would blow anything, really. A vacuum leak will give you less boost, not more. Clearly you're really talking about a leak in what I'd call the plumbing - sometimes there is vacuum, sometimes there is boost pressure, Trionic makes it all work seamlessly, which is a clever trick if you stop to think about it
(2) the real thing will work best and you said it, the postage will cost more than the bit of plastic or rubber so what are cards for
(3) In your position I would drive the car, I doubt if you will hurt anything, you just won't have so much fun but you will get to work on time
I think if you have overboost it is likely to be something else entirely. But getting to the red in an Aero isn't overboost, it's devoutly to be wished - it just means the thing is working properly. My 2.3 CSE automatic will dip into the red before the Trionic trims it back. Overboost is when the engine goes postal and presumably hits fuel cutoff, which you would really know about becaue you will probably be doing something enterprising at the time.
Most partial failure modes (like your hose problem) lead to less boost, not more.
I also think your hose blew off because it's an old car and they do that sometimes (certainly happened on my '93).
