Had one (K that had a broken housing for the bearing "ball" at the base of the gear lever. Grab your gear knob and pull up/push down it should have NO vertical movement. If it does you've found your problem.
IF the lever is Fine then your mounts ARE shot despite your initial thoughts. Check your Upper Dogbone mount rubbers as well the lower front engine mount under the water pump(more or less ) then the rear engine mount.
Check the lower mounts by jacking up the engine a couple of inches. Carefully! you can do a lot of damage if sloppy/unaware, then look for Torn rubbers in the mounts.
