It's been my experience that the remapped ECU will run acceptably on 87. Knock sensor function continues unmolested.
Just don't be expecting the Boost gauge to soar to new levels on it though.
I thought my setup was failing .. after using 87 for a couple/four or more? tankfulls. Big mistake on my part, thinking something was wrong, as Boost levels were 'at best' lower than stock.
Genuinely worried I had messed something expensive.
Refilling with 91/94 soon (beginning after 2nd tankful tho) had it back to being frighteningly quick.
Bit of a pain $ wise though as, MY car at least, is a genuine Gas Hog... as it always has been (no change, either way, after remapping)
Difference in fuel grades is like 10/15 cents a litre 'here', unlike in USA where it's only a few cents.
