Hello fellow Saaber's,
I had a problem with my 97 CSE. The fuel gauge stopped working after the fuel tank collapsed when the vent line on the filler neck got plugged up a couple years ago. We've been using the odometer and just filling it up every 300 miles since then. I finally fabricated my fuel pump removal tool and I had nice weather on Saturday so I pulled the assembly and noticed part of the circuit card/coil for the fuel level sender was broken off. I swapped in a complete assembly that I took out of my 90 9000T as they look identical and I know it wasn't that old when I junked the car. Now the gas gauge reads "full" when full and empty at about 2/3rd's full. Is there a difference in resistance values between the two generations or do I possibly have the fuel pump assembly reservoir cocked and hung up on the edge of the sump in the tank. I had to push down on the assenbly to get it to go in. I thought possibly the spring thingy's got stretched when I removed it. eEuro shows a different part number after 1993. There is a minor difference in the fuel pick-up at the jet pump that fills the reservoir but I don't think that would be a problem. Other than that, the car runs fine with the "new" assembly. I would just like to get the gas gauge reading correctly.
