The first to check would be the orientation of the fuel pump so that it is clocked correctly with the lines pairing up between pump and tank.
I wouldn't think the shape and volume of the tanks between 91 and 92 (when the switch happened) would be that different so that a different resistance scale is needed. But it is a slight chance that maybe the resistance logic in gauge cluster changed between 91 and 92 so that it is in fact a difference in the sending unit. I don't know that for sure though.
So check that nothing is bent on the level arm and that it is clocked correctly and when you have the unit out of the tank, just do a slow sweep with ignition on and see how the gauge react and certain levels.
