Any numbnuts who lets a potential buyer demo a car low on coolant has done far worse to it when no one was looking. I've had many 9000s and any time the coolant temp gauge goes above the half-way mark on a short drive, something is wrong.
Before any money changes hands, look at it in daylight, especially check the color of the coolant. Should be bright and clear. If it shows any traces of solids, seller maybe has dumped FLAPS sealant in there, hoping to make the problem yours. Finally, have the cooling system pressure tested. The pump-up test is quick and inexpensive. Any shop should have one and might save you from paying too much if there is a problem.
One guess - you may be replacing the head gasket soon and hope the head isn't warped.
