Basically it's the top of engine 'dogbone' setup's condition/deterioration that causes lower mount issues.
Crapped out lower mounts can be kept in service simply by using the 'bit of hyd hose' mount limiter bodge. As if one limits their extension/movement even a rip in the rubber is inconsequential... this presumes a fresh or 'perfect condition' dogbone mount tho
I've always found that one has to lift the engine surprisingly high to get it up off the mount adequately for removal.. bit of a pita but not that terrible a diy job
