The Water Pump is at the pass side front corner of the engine (assuming you've got a 4 cyl).
Your best bet is your nose, and maybe looking for steam. Look for white residue around the overflow tank top, radiator inlet/outlet and so on.
The heater outlet hose will rot from age/heat and start to seep, and is very hard to see, but you should be able to feel wetness there if it is. Its on the driver's side of the cyl head, above the flywheel.
Parking lot puddles aren't always yours, but since you had a no-heat and were low on coolant, you've got something going on.
