Got a tough decision. Just got the Aero back from my son at college. Looks like the tranny is going south. Slippin in 4th and intermittent hard shifting. Car has 195K on it. Motor runs good. Good boost. It currently has a Maptun Stage 3, Konis all around, 3" turbo back exhaust, H&R springs. Body is in decent shape. Never been wrecked. No dents. No rust. Interior is good except for the drivers seat needs re-skined. All major issues have been addressed such as heater core, fuel pump the typical saab woes. I have had it since 95K.
So sell it or restore it close to original? I hate to part with it but know putting 6-7K or more in it to bring it back to its original glory is probably not worth it. But damn its a good care that is getting harder and harder to find. I have an 01 Viggen with 69K and similar mods that is awesome but its not an Aero. At 6-5 I appreciate the extra space in the aero.
Am I an idiot for wanting to bring this car? Luckily I can afford it and don't need it as a daily driver. I have maintained this car myself with the exception of a clutch job a year ago. Taking on the project does not intimidate me but the Viggen would literally get kicked to the curb due to garage space.
What do fellow Saabers think?
