No question that the chassis and NVH is a huge improvement in new cars. That said, we're all driving 15+ year old cars now, so they were probably a bit better new with brand new suspensions, door seals, etc. too.
That said, new cars have some annoying stuff too. Electric assist varied whatever steer sucks in most new cars, though I'm sure it will get better. I'll take a little torque steer and whatever small penitently in fuel economy for the 9k's steering any day. I find new automatic transmissions pretty hit or miss, some are great but a lot of them have super tall gears that they're always rushing up to and the shifting out of if you so much as breath on the throttle. A 'new' 9k would also probably weigh 1000lbs more too. I agree a 9k updated with modern chassis engineer, etc. would be great, but there would be trade offs too.
The stereo and keyless remote stuff can be easily retrofitted, so no big deal there as far as I'm concerned. I'm still okay with turning a key to start the car :)
