I agree with Mr Bubble. You should pull back the entire carpet to check. I had a lot of trouble with rust in the later years of my 1994. Not only near the shock towers, (which cost me $1000 to fix), but also in the area surrounding the trailing arm behind the rear wheels. The rust finished the car in the end with the powertrain and interior still flawless. Your possible car is newer, but give it a close look. The legendary Saab durability is no help if the body gives out. I would look outside of New England if you are serious about a long term car.
