Used a hammer and drift on my rear sensor Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Sat, 24 Nov 2012 10:59:03 In Reply to: Successful method for removing ABS sensors?, RayV, Sat, 24 Nov 2012 10:51:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I had a failed left rear sensor that was badly rusted in place. The bolt holding it in place snapped off due to corrosion and it would not budge from the inside end. I was able to pound the sensor out with a drift and hammer from the outside, there is enough of it exposed after removing the tire that it was not necessary to remove the hub.
Even after cleaning out the mounting hole, the replacement sensor was a very tight press fit. Had to carefully tap it into place and it was tight enough that I didn't worry about the broken bolt. Works great, no more ABS light.
I haven't done a front sensor yet, it might be necessary to remove the hub to do a similar operation.
