First, no mechanical consequences for running with it disconnected. Your car will remain significantly underpowered, that's all.
If you have a little (maybe 6" long with a 90 degree bend at one end) hose connecting the compressor side of the turbo to the wastegate actuator "can", and if the actuator rod is attached to the wastegate arm, then the lpt setup is correctly installed. The short hose delivers pressure, not vacuum.
What you'll have as a result is a turbo that is restrained by the mechanical operation of the actuator. Your engine will feel stronger briefly when accelerating, but the base boost (about 6 psi) quickly trails off. Compared to no boost at all, this is very much worth fixing. You won't know how well it is working without a boost gauge. There's no need to install one really until you go to fpt.
The operation of the lpt turbo system is purely mechanical. If a defect causes an overboost condition then the engine's computer will cut off fuel briefly.
Because it is a lpt your engine and drive train have probably had a very easy life. The car is far easier and more pleasant to drive as a fpt.
