Xenon lights update... Posted by vtsnaab [Email] (#26) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vtsnaab) on Thu, 18 Apr 2013 22:45:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Some time back I posted about how happy I was with the upgrade to xenons in my '94 Aero.
My happiness has continued unabated until 2 things happened=>
1. After all this time a state cop stopped me, complaining about my headlights being too bright...
2. Right about the same time, my auxiliary (for road critters) lights which also have xenons started blowing their fuse instead of lighting.
I guessed #1 as being the 6000k colour temp which is an intense white that is almost blue - and #2 was a failed ballast.
Contacting the fleabay seller to collect the warranty was impossible because fleabay refused to allow the item # as real (just one of several reasons why I've quit fleabay altogether...).
Instead I searched Amazon and found a set with a longer warranty for just under $50 and got those with 4300k bulbs to match the 'normal' halogens.
Repairs took just minutes - removed the 9006 xenons, re-used one ballast for the aux. lights, and installed the new 4300k bulbs & ballasts for the headlights.
The results have quite surprised me; as good as the cheapo xenons were compared to halogens, the newer xenons are visibly better, and their ballasts are much better constructed as well.
Once again I must say that this is the best/easiest drop-in upgrade I've ever done, and well worth every cent it cost.
There is one tiny downside which most folks will not care about.
The newer ones do draw a tiny bit more current than the cheaper ones did, still less than halogens, but they do make the alternator work harder.
If anyone is curious for more exact details, feel free to email me.
Best Wishes for Happy Saabing !!!
