Hi all,
Recently installed a nice set of gauges with new senders from VDO, as my 85 900T has a similar set as well. Oil pressure seems very low on this 2.3 compared to my 900. They say ignorance is bliss as I would have never worried if I never installed them in the first place. I am NOT getting the oil idiot light during driving, nor has it ever illuminated while idling, its just rather low
Cold oil pressure is normal:
-idle - 4.0Bar (60ish PSI)
-2000rpm - 4.5Bar (65ish PSI)
-4000rpm - 5Bar (75 PSI)
Oil @ 80°C wont build proper pressure:
-idle - 1.2Bar (20ish PSI) - not bad at idle
-2000rpm - 2.2Bar (33ish PSI) - quite low
-4000rpm - 2.7Bar (40ish PSI) - low
-5500rpm - same
oil @ 90°C is worse still:
-idle - .7Bar (10PSI)
-2000rpm - 2Bar (30PSI)
>3000 levels off at 2.7Bar
now even though this isnt enough to kill an engine right away, im worrying about over time causing damage. engine has 210,000KM and at 198,000KM the engine was completely removed to service the balance chain which had practically destroyed itself. At this time I:
-replaced timing chain and all components
-replaced balance chain and components
-removed head, removed valves from head and reground seats...replaced with all new seals, etc.
-new clutch
-new o-rings on oil pick-up tube and oil pan pick up, new front main and rear main
...nothing looked askew inside, and everything cleaned very well and reassembled, engine runs great, 200PSI compression...
whats gone wrong inside my engine? oil pump looked good, no scouring, removed the pressure relief spring and piston during rebuild and seemed great. oil pickup was cleaned at reassembly of course
...just wondering what to do next, where to start? OR just drive it and not worry?
thanks
