I used a mechanical gauge which corresponded to the VDO one to make sure, as the gauge is probably 20 years old, it just seems so low compared to the other saabs ive had. My 1987 9000S had 638,000KM on it when I finally gave it to a wrecker, still made 3.5 Bar when revved just like new.
I took this car on a very long road trip last summer (drove it hard the whole trip), who knows its possible its been like this the whole time and I was completely ignorant to it. Saab engines are very durable and even though the pressure is below spec slightly im sure it will last many many miles. It would be disappointing to cause bottom end damage though
Next time I have the inner fender liner off I think ill be replacing the oil pump gears and oil pump cover just to see what happens. I have another 2.3 sitting on a cart which ive been using for parts.
