I think those numbers are fine by the usual 'rules of thumb', but I doubt anyone except maybe the engineers at Saab know what's really safe and what the impact or running a little low is. I'm in a similar situation with an International Harvester V8, the pressure is definitely lower than what most people see but who knows exactly what the culprit is and what if any damage I'm doing. In any case the expense of finding out and replacing what's worn is probably not worth the trouble and cost versus taking a chance on it being okay (plus with that old engine I'm somewhat comfortable with the old no valve noise at idle means it's probably okay rationale). I do agree though that swapping the oil pump on these engines is easy enough that it's worth trying, especially if you have a known good spare set. Do go ahead and run 20W-50 though. Now I'm curious what my '87 9kT with 325k is putting out for oil pressure.
