ticking from top of engine

Guys, I have a 94 9000 non-turbo with 157k miles. I bought it with 153k miles and have been fixing it up. The engine sometimes makes a ticking sound (sticky lifter I think) for the first 5-10 minutes the car is running. It was actually pretty much constant until I added thicker oil and a bottle of Rislone. That helped but the ticking is still there for about 5 minutes after startup. Its quite loud actually. I can hear the sound reflecting off cars when I pass them, if I have the window down. I checked the compression last week. 185-190 in all cylinders. New DI installed last week. New plugs. Excellent gas mileage.
I read that there is valve near the oil pump that controls output from the oil pump. Is it possible the valve is worn and not allowing enough oil to get pumped to the lifters?
Thanks!
Rob
