I can give you a few thoughts on this that hopefully help a little.
The common point between the outside temp and the fuel gauge in the EDU, so a problem there will cause a problem with both. If you have access to a spare EDU, or you at least used to be able to get them really cheap on that auction site, that would be worth a shot.
The other thing would be the ignition switch itself, given the problem only occurs after cranking. They do go bad and can produce electrical anomalies like this. Again, this is pretty easy and cheap to replace.
Finally, I've had my EDU go wonky after cranking when I had a bad battery. It had enough amps to start the car, but I think the voltage hit a low enough level during cranking to confuse the EDU. Try a known good battery, or start it connected to a booster box or while jump starting the car.
